AmeriCU Credit Union is seeking a visionary General Counsel to serve as our senior legal advisor and trusted partner to the CEO, Board of Directors, and executive leadership. In this high-impact role, you’ll shape legal strategy, drive responsible growth, and safeguard our mission to help members live life, dream big, and achieve financial success.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead Legal Strategy: Advise on major transactions (mergers, acquisitions, financings), oversee litigation, and manage relationships with outside counsel.
- Be a Trusted Advisor: Guide the CEO, Board, and senior leaders on legal, regulatory, and business matters.
- Champion Compliance: Oversee the Compliance Department and ensure AmeriCU meets all regulatory requirements.
- Mitigate Risk: Anticipate, identify, and manage legal and compliance risks across the organization.
- Drive Business Growth: Enable responsible expansion by integrating legal analysis into business decisions and initiatives.
- Lead & Develop Teams: Direct, mentor, and grow the legal and compliance teams, fostering a culture of excellence and ethical leadership.
- Shape Policy: Develop and implement legal department policies, procedures, budgets, and internal controls.
What You Bring:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school; NYS licensed attorney in good standing.
- 10+ years of legal experience (including contract negotiation, vendor agreements, and regulatory compliance—preferably in financial services).
- Deep knowledge of regulations affecting financial institutions (CFPB/NCUA).
- Exceptional leadership, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple high-priority projects and provide clear, strategic counsel.
