POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Loan & Asset Specialist I (Collections) Date: 2024
Department: Loan & Asset Recovery Department Status: Non-Exempt
Reporting To: Loan & Asset Recovery Manager Pay Grade: 5 ($18.16-$27.24)
POSITION SUMMARY
The primary function of this position is to handle the advanced collection efforts of the Credit Union’s deposit and loan portfolio, to include but not limited to, the delinquency and charge off of consumer loans and deposit accounts. This position also counsels, educates, and finds solutions for our members to ensure their financial success along with that of the Credit Union.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for and handles the advanced collection of the Credit Union’s deposit and loan portfolio, to include but not limited to, consumer loans and deposit accounts.
- Review accounts and loans with members to devise solutions and workout plans to mitigate delinquency and charge off.
- Review accounts and loans and recommend for repossession and charge off if other solutions are not available.
- Assist with accounts assigned for bankruptcy to include handling bankruptcy notices, and responding to correspondences.
- Responsible for post charge-off portfolio and actively work recoveries.
- Support department with all month end reporting.
- Main liaison between Credit Union and all recovery vendors to include but not limited to: Credit Union legal counsel, repossession agents, auction houses, remarketers, collateral insurance, outside collection agencies, etc.
- Must have strong communication skills to deliver difficult messages, while educating members on their financial picture including positive situations and negative consequences.
- Must have a demeanor to handle escalated situations while showing compassion.
- Must be able to balance quality and quantity.
- Work incoming call queue for both internal and external members.
- Shares existing knowledge and remains updated on collection laws and practices through educational opportunities.
- Identifies trends in order to support the Member Solutions team.
- Must have the ability to multitask while staying organized.
- Required to adhere to Collections Guidelines and Standards.
- Required to adhere to Credit Union policies and procedures.
- Required to participate in First Source Federal Credit Union events as well as designated community events.
- Required to attend or participate in necessary compliance training, including but not limited to Bank Secrecy, OFAC, and Privacy.
- Required to attend training sessions as appropriate.
- Required to travel as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- High School plus 3-5 years related lending experience or related business degree
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail
- Strong computer aptitude
- A professional appearance
