JOB SUMMARY: The Manufacturing Systems Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and sustaining manufacturing and engineering control systems that embed quality directly into production processes. This role partners closely with Quality, Information Technology (IT), Engineering, and Operations teams to deploy integrated automated systems that improve inline quality, reduce process variation, and eliminate reliance on manual inspections. The primary objective of this role is to transition the organization from defect detection to defect prevention through robust system design and process control.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (COMPETENCIES):
• Design and implement manufacturing and engineering control systems that enable inline quality monitoring and control
• Integrate legacy equipment with sensors, vision systems, data acquisition software, and data systems to ensure real-time visibility into process performance and enable incremental elimination/replacement of manual checks and verifications with electronic checks and balances
• Develop Health of Line metrics and report on a routine cadence to stakeholders within the organization, incorporating process and machine data from various sensors, PLCs as well as transaction data from the ERP system at a minimum. Adept at interpreting the data and articulating a message and story for the key stakeholders.
• Partner with Quality Engineering to conduct routine FMEA reviews and generate a funnel of Continuous Improvement (CI) projects that introduce automated process and product controls while incrementally reducing the overall risk profile. Work with process owners and engineers to implement the CI projects.
• Work with IT and Digital Manufacturing teams to implement MES, SPC, data collection, and analytics platforms. Work as an engineering representative and be the voice of the customer during implementation of IT and analytics systems.
• Collaborate with Operations and Production teams to ensure system usability, adoption, and sustainability on the shop floor. Champion seamless integration of fragmented standalone inspection systems, data collection systems, and MES electronic gates to create a reliable, user-friendly in-line QA/QC system.
• Communicate effectively and frequently on progress of CI projects through and across the company with an audience of varied technical expertise
• Own the SPC systems as well as the Engineering KPI dashboard once it is launched and implemented
• Collaborate with other sites domestically and internationally on CI project implementation
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment
• Familiarity with DMAIC concepts, SPC, MES, and Lean Manufacturing Principles
• Familiarity with common drafting/design software packages is a plus
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive success
• Ability to travel
• Provide own source of transportation for any local/day travel, including travel between Indium Corporation facilities

The salary range indicated in this posting represents the minimum and maximum of the range for the position. The actual range will vary based upon factors including, but not limited to, prior experience, knowledge, skill and education as they relate to the position’s qualifications, and internal equity.
The posted salary range reflects just one component of our total rewards package. Other components include health, dental, and vision insurance, PTO, retirement plan, volunteer opportunities, paid holidays, overtime opportunities, and many more.
$62,500 - $85,000 annually
