JOB SUMMARY: The Material Scientist is responsible for research and development of new or improved processes of rare metals and preparation of reports on experimental findings.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (COMPETENCIES):
• Conduct scientific research on development of new or improved techniques and processes for separation and purification of rare metals such as Germanium, Gallium and Indium from mining, impure compounds and semi-conductor Recycle streams
• Conduct lab scale to pilot plant scale trials to do proof concept
• Characterization of materials using state of the art instrumentation for physical and chemical properties affecting the performance of the process or end use
• Prepare reports on experimental findings for communication to the upper management and company records
• Work closely with manufacturing engineers to identify and pursue potential applications and opportunities
• Assist or lead in the development and implementation of commercialization strategies to transition technology to products
• Develop process development cost models for the profit/loss and return on investment analysis
• Assist in the practical implementation and continuous improvement of Indium’s Business Management System to meet and exceed customer requirements
• Assist in documentation and implementation of safety processes based on material knowledge
• Attend training as needed or assigned
• Performs other duties or special projects as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
• Master’s Degree or equivalent in Material Science, Chemical Engineering Technology or a related field
• 1-2 years of work experience
• Ability to work independently with verbal and written instruction
• Communicates in a clear, organized and professional manner
• Ability to develop an understanding of Indium Corporation products and services

The salary range indicated in this posting represents the minimum and maximum of the range for the position. The actual range will vary based upon factors including, but not limited to, prior experience, knowledge, skill and education as they relate to the position’s qualifications, and internal equity.
