Summer Early Childhood Teacher
Pay is $40/hr
Position Summary:
Teach 3-5 year old children in the county’s only integrated preschool program for the summer session. Collaborate with a partner Special Education Teacher to plan, organize, and implement activities and lesson plans for up to 15 children, with and without disabilities.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the children in the program.
- Ensure the equipment and the classroom are clean, well maintained and safe at all times.
- Provide weekly and monthly schedules of activities for 30 days of summer school.
- Develop activities that introduce math and literacy concepts.
- Develop activities that foster cooperative play and learning.
- Implement positive discipline when required. Follow behavior plans and participate in the development of Good Working Strategies as needed.
- Attend agency, faculty and student meetings.
- Attend classroom meetings, working in conjunction with special education teacher to create and review weekly agenda.
- Manage classroom staff and daily routines
- Demonstrate an understanding of and compliance with applicable regulatory procedures.
- Keep parents informed of program activities and their child’s progress.
- Communicate in an ongoing, positive, and productive fashion with all members of students’ team, to facilitate child learning across environments.
- Develop and record lesson plans with clear, developmentally appropriate objectives.
- Assist students in all activities of daily living, including meal time and toileting routines.
Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
- NYS Teacher Certification preferred.
- Experience leading a classroom and creating education lesson plans preferred.
- Experience working in a licensed childcare facility preferred.
- Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of computer software and e-mail applications, especially Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word; have the aptitude to learn other computer software as necessary.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. independently and assist in lifting weights exceeding 50 lbs.
