Position Overview
The Assistant Director provides leadership for Community Habilitation services on the Syracuse University (SU) campus. This role is responsible for guiding Coordinators, strengthening program quality, and making sure services are consistent, flexible, and integrated into campus life.
You’ll spend time both supporting your team and staying connected to campus life.
What You’ll Do
- Supervise and support Coordinators, providing coaching, guidance, and accountability
- Stay visible and engaged on the SU campus to understand how services are working day-to-day
- Help Coordinators manage staffing, scheduling, and service delivery in a way that is practical and responsive
- Review and approve habilitation plans to ensure they reflect each person’s goals and align with service requirements
- Step in to help resolve complex situations involving staffing, families, or service needs
- Build and maintain relationships with campus partners, OPWDD, care coordinators, and other providers
- Monitor documentation, billing, and compliance to ensure accuracy and timeliness
- Identify gaps or trends and make adjustments to improve program quality and consistency
- Support hiring, onboarding, and ongoing training of staff
- Promote a team culture that is person-centered, respectful, and solution-focused
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field (Master’s preferred)
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills in a fast-moving environment
- Clear communication and the ability to coach and support others
- Comfortable balancing field-based work with administrative responsibilities
- Proficiency with basic computer systems and willingness to learn new platforms
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel locally
