Position Summary:
Pay Range: $45,000-$49,000 Salary
The Early Childhood Teacher develops and implements activities and lesson plans for 3-5 year old children in collaboration with a partnering Special Education Teacher. Together, the teachers plan, organize, and manage daily classroom activities to engage, teach, and support child development.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide a safe and developmentally appropriate preschool program in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies and procedure.
- Plan and implement activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the children in the program.
- Ensure the equipment and the facility are clean, well maintained and safe at all times.
- Provide weekly and monthly schedules of activities.
- Develop activities that introduce math and literacy concepts.
- Develop activities that foster cooperative play and learning.
- Implement positive discipline when required. Follow behavior plans and participate in the development of Good Working Strategies as needed.
- Participate in introductory and ongoing learning opportunities and professional development activities as assigned and approved by supervisor.
- Attend agency, faculty and student meetings.
- Attend weekly classroom meetings, working in conjunction with special education teacher to create and review weekly agenda.
- Demonstrate an understanding of and compliance with applicable regulatory procedures.
- Keep parents informed of program activities and their child’s progress.
- Communicate in an ongoing, positive, and productive fashion with all members of students’ team, to facilitate child learning across environments.
- Develop and record lesson plans with clear, developmentally appropriate objectives.
- Assist students in all activities of daily living, including meal time and toileting routines.
Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Requirements:
- Associates Degree in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field or Child Development Associate Credential and one year experience related to caring for children required
- Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development preferred.
- NYS Teacher Certification preferred.
- Experience leading a classroom and creating education lesson plans and/or working in a licensed childcare facility preferred.
- Proficiency in or knowledge of using a variety of computer software and e-mail applications, especially Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word; have the aptitude to learn other computer software as necessary.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. independently and assist in lifting weights exceeding 50 lbs.
