Job Description:
The Office of Equity and Inclusion at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Oneonta invites application for the position of Associate Director of the Center for Racial Justice and Inclusive Excellence.
The Associate Director will partner with the Director to provide visionary leadership for the Center for Racial Justice and Inclusive Excellence (CRJIE) whose mission is to foster a safe space and a sense of belonging for all members of the SUNY Oneonta community. The CRJIE will provide a new space for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) to be taught, learned, and celebrated as well as opportunities for the campus community to engage in collaborative education and experiences related to DEI. The position in partnership with the Director will contribute, significantly, to ongoing progress on the campus' diversity, equity, racial justice, and inclusive excellence goals. It will also enhance the progress on student retention, persistence, and completion rates, especially for students from underrepresented backgrounds.
In this role, the Associate Director will collaborate in efforts to provide a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment committed to the success of all students and to enhance a shared sense of belonging. This includes creating programming, educational opportunities, and initiatives that address diversity-related topics affecting the student body - developing and implementing programs that promote students' development of intercultural competence; and organizing programs that enhance students' capacity for critical thought around issues of diversity and inclusion, as well as their ability to engage across differences and create inclusive spaces. Also working in close partnership with the Center Director and colleagues across campus, the position will assist with creating campus- wide diversity and inclusion trainings, programs, and events, including the celebration of various heritage months and engage in direct support and advocacy efforts.
A vital member of the CRJIE/OEI administrative team, the Associate Director of the CRJIE will provide support for unit programs and functions and will report to the VPDEI. Workdays for the position will occasionally include evening hours and weekends.
