Job Description:
The Department of Communication and Media at the State University of New York at Oneonta invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of Media Technology. The successful candidate should be an experienced, self-motivated, creative audio-video producer or engineer with a passion for training future generations of media-makers. This individual will oversee the Department's technical operations and install, integrate, maintain, and repair the Department's varied audio-video equipment, studios, and classrooms, plus manage a team of student workers. This role requires strong technical knowledge and expertise along with excellent people and project management skills, budgeting capabilities, and a healthy mix of problem-solving, patience, and creativity.
The Department of Communication and Media houses a community of thriving teachers, scholars, artists, and practitioners across the fields of Communication Studies and Media Studies, bringing 21st-century approaches to the study of communication to SUNY Oneonta. Whether our students move on to the professional world or continue their education in graduate studies, our goal is to facilitate their growth to meet the demands of the increasingly complex, complicated, dynamic, and globalizing world. The Department offers two programs - Communication Studies and Media Studies - with over 400 majors, 18 full-time faculty, and 14 part-time faculty members. The Department houses multiple media production and post-production facilities including a television/video production facility with two studio spaces and a control room, two audio production suites, a non-linear editing suite with a dozen workstations, a newsroom lab space, and multiple equipment storage and prop rooms. Students in the Department gain professional level media-making skills in filmmaking and digital video production, multi-camera television broadcasting, audio storytelling for radio and podcast, print and multimedia journalism, screenwriting, livestreaming, and social media and online content creation.
