Join Upstate Caring Partners for a 13-week externship designed for undergraduate students eager to explore applied behavior analysis, psychology, education, therapy, or
related fields!
We believe that guidance, mentoring, and hands-on experience are the best ways to learn and explore career paths. With locations throughout Central New York, Upstate Caring Partners welcomes local students for internships and observations. Our programs use a collaborative, team-based approach, giving students the chance to work alongside a variety of professionals.
We’re excited to announce our 9th annual Summer Externship program for undergraduate students interested in clinical careers in intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). This program offers immersive, real-world experience across our preschool, school-age, and adult services. As part of an interdisciplinary team including psychologists, BCBAs, psychiatrists, educators, therapists, nurses, and direct support professionals, externs gain valuable clinical skills while exploring careers in applied behavior analysis, psychology, social work, medicine, education, and therapy.
Beyond hands-on learning, externs participate in a structured Career Seminar, engage in applied research, and showcase their work during our Data & Donuts Poster Session—all designed to strengthen resumes and graduate school applications.
Program Highlights
- Gain direct experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) across school, adult, and preschool programs.
- Engage in weekly mentorship and career exploration seminars with UCP leaders.
- Complete a mentored research project culminating in the Data & Donuts Poster Session.
- Collaborate across disciplines within one of Upstate New York's leading human services organization.
Requirements
- Undergraduate student actively pursuing a bachelor' degree.
- Externship is 35 hours per week and runs from 05/18/26 - 08/14/26.
- Submit application, transcript, references and cover letter by 02/23/26.
- Externs will be selected by 03/27/26.
- Agency background clearance required.
The externship runs May 18, 2026 through August 14, 2026, offering a unique opportunity to build expertise while making a meaningful impact on individuals with complex developmental and co-occurring needs. Interested? Submit your application by February 23, 2026!
