Systems Administrator I is an on-site technical role supporting the daily operation, maintenance, and administration of a complex server and Microsoft 365 environment serving more than 80 locations and 1,600 users.
This entry-level position performs server administration, system configuration, software updates, Active Directory management, troubleshooting, Microsoft 365 administration, and Level II technical support. The Systems Administrator I frequently collaborates with the Senior Systems Administrator.
Core Responsibilities
- Support and maintain the Microsoft Windows server infrastructure and Microsoft 365 environment.
- Administer Active Directory user accounts, security groups, organizational units, and Group Policy.
- Perform routine server maintenance and hypervisor support tasks.
- Manage and effectively prioritize a wide range of short-term and long-term projects.
- Perform IS department software updates and server patch management.
- Support and maintain technologies responsible for IS disaster recovery.
- Collaborate with the Senior Systems Administrator to remediate vulnerabilities, and secure systems.
- Monitor data backup solutions and confirm data restore functionality on a routine basis.
- Point of escalation for service requests requiring level II technical support.
- Responsible for internal and external DNS record management.
- Maintain and periodically update technical server documentation.
- Mentor IS Support Specialists through collaborative troubleshooting.
- Adhere to change control processes & procedures.
- Occasionally provide supplemental network & telecommunications support, when required.
- Exhibit a professional and collaborative demeanor with agency staff and team members.
- Create & submit Monthly Reports that identify and articulate key initiatives and server trends.
- Adhere to mandatory abuse reporting laws and HIPAA requirements.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree in field of Computer Science or related field and 2 years of experience supporting and troubleshooting Information Technology OR;
- 4 years of experience supporting and troubleshooting Information Technology.
- Experience with the following technologies:
- Email Technology: Alias’, Distribution Groups, Rules
- Microsoft: Active Directory, NTFS, Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Remote Desktop Services, Windows Operating System
- Mobile Devices: Android, Apple iOS
- Office 365: Exchange, OneDrive, Outlook Online, Teams
- PCs: Diagnostics & troubleshooting, Hardware
- Security: Mobile Device Management (MDM – Intune Preferred)
- Software: Management, Monitoring & Reporting Software (Lansweeper & PRTG Preferred)
- Knowledge or familiarity of the following technologies:
- Authentication: ADFS, RADIUS, SSO
- Encryption: Certificates, TLS
- Networking: OSI Model, SNMP, TCP/IP
- Security: VPN
- Servers: Group Policy, RAID
- Virtualization: Design & use cases (Basic Concepts)
- Flexible hours including nights, weekends, and working from home required.
- After-hours on-call responsibilities.
- Travel is required. Must have a valid NYS driver’s license & dependable vehicle.
