The power to make it real.

At Wolfspeed, we believe the most powerful innovations are created by people who care deeply about what they build and why it matters. As the leader in silicon carbide technology, we are enabling a more sustainable, electrified future—one breakthrough at a time.

Our team at Wolfspeed is bold, modern, and relentlessly focused on execution. We are building the foundation for the next decades of innovation and we’re looking for people who are ready to help shape it.

This role plays a critical part in Wolfspeed’s mission to scale world‑class silicon carbide technology safely, reliably, and sustainably. In your role as an Automotive Staff Field Applications Engineer, you will deliver high‑quality technical support through direct customer engagement, lead EV design‑win activities, and serve as a trusted technical partner to automotive customers developing next‑generation electrified systems.

You will work closely with customers across the full design lifecycle—supporting application definition, system‑level optimisation, and issue resolution—while collaborating with Wolfspeed’s EMEA Automotive Sales organisation, internal engineering teams, and the wider Field Applications Engineering community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with Automotive Sales Account Managers to secure design wins and support EMEA revenue growth.
  • Qualify new customer opportunities and assess the suitability of silicon carbide power devices for automotive applications.
  • Provide pre‑sales technical support, clearly articulating system‑level benefits and the value proposition of Wolfspeed SiC solutions.
  • Support customers throughout the full design cycle—from samples and prototypes through pilot, pre‑production, and volume production—including hardware debug and system‑level guidance.
  • Investigate customer claims and field application issues in collaboration with Quality teams to determine root cause and corrective actions.

This role may require additional duties and/or assignments as designated by management.

Required Qualifications

  • MSc in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (or equivalent) with 3–5 years’ experience as a Field Applications Engineer, Application Engineer, or R&D Engineer in high‑power electronics (>1 kW).
  • Strong understanding of power electronics topologies, including hard‑ and soft‑switching architectures, and hands‑on experience with high‑voltage semiconductor devices.
  • Solid foundation in semiconductor devices, including diodes, BJTs, JFETs, MOSFETs, and IGBTs.
  • Experience in circuit design, component selection, loss calculations, PCB layout considerations, and magnetic design within automotive environments.
  • Strong technical communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with customer system and component‑level engineering teams.
  • Willingness to travel frequently for on‑site customer support across the EMEA region.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and working knowledge of simulation tools such as LTspice and/or PLECS.
  • Fluency in German and English (additional European languages highly desirable).
  • This role requires the lawful ability to access technical data, information, and areas controlled by United States export control laws and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting automotive OEMs or Tier‑1 suppliers in EV, inverter, OBC, or DC‑DC converter applications.
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as AEC‑Q, JEDEC, UL, and EMI/EMC requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with strong proactivity and minimal supervision.

Why Wolfspeed?

As the global leader in silicon carbide technology, we are powering the future of energy—enabling cleaner transportation, more efficient power systems, and solutions that make a lasting impact on how the world works. But our success is not driven by technology alone. It’s driven by people.

Just as we take ownership of our technology leadership, we take accountability for how we show up for our employees, our customers, and the communities we serve. That’s how we power the future—together.
