Here’s the Gist:

Wolfspeed is seeking a Head of Global Tax to lead the tax accounting function including ASC 740 and U.S. Federal and State compliance. Additionally, this role will oversee Wolfspeed’s teams and outside service providers leading its research and investment tax credit initiatives. In this role, you will be a key leader in Wolfspeed’s tax and finance organization, reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Controller.

You will have primary responsibility over the Company’s quarterly and annual tax provision under ASC 740 including FIN48 and SOX documentation as well as the Company’s outsourced Federal and State income tax compliance and any domestic income tax audits. You will monitor tax law changes and their impact to Wolfspeed as well as support tax planning and mergers and acquisitions. You will support and coordinate with Wolfspeed’s team leading investment tax credit initiatives under Section 48D and 48C as well as the Company’s annual research credit study. The successful candidate is a leader with considerable tax technical knowledge, analytical capability, exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, and capable of managing multiple projects and priorities while meeting key deadlines.

The Day-to-Day:

  • Review the quarterly and annual global tax provision in accordance with ASC 740 using ONESOURCE Tax Provision, including FIN 48, valuation allowance analyses, and proofs of income tax payable and deferred tax accounts
  • Effectively manage internal team and co-sourced external accounting firm in the preparation of the U.S. federal and state tax returns, including review of certain complex tax calculations such as depreciation, amortization, convertible notes, debt financing, and stock-based compensation
  • Collaborate with tax team members, FP&A, and SEC Reporting in quarterly calculation of global cash tax estimate and Non-GAAP tax rate computation including participation in quarterly presentation to senior leadership
  • Support and coordinate with Wolfspeed’s team leading investment tax credit initiatives under Section 48D and 48C as well as the Company’s annual research credit study to ensure proper recognition in the Company’s USGAAP financials
  • Oversee IRS and state tax examinations, including responsibility for reviewing communications, preparation of responses to information document requests and related inquiries
  • Perform and/or liaise with outside service providers on tax technical research and document within tax technical memorandums and/or present within an executive presentation
  • Coordinate with other Tax and Accounting leaders on various technical research and strategic planning related to tax planning, strategic opportunities, and/or merger & acquisition activities
  • Oversee and support process improvement projects as the Company transitions to SAP, including driving internal tax team and collaboration with cross-functional teams
  • Ensure compliance with SOX 404 controls and testing
  • Lead and develop internal team including tax managers and senior tax analysts

This Job is Right for You if You Have (Minimum Requirements):

  • 7+ years in public accounting or industry with a background in corporate income tax including ASC 740 experience
  • CPA certification
  • Organized, detail oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Team player who displays Wolfspeed’s values and is motivated to develop junior staff
  • Experience using ONESOURCE Tax Provision, SAP, and Alteryx are a plus
