Position Summary
The Staff | Field Applications Engineer will be responsible for pre- and post-sales technical support of Wolfspeed's SiC power devices to achieve design-in/design-win goals and drive business growth.
This position requires close engagement with strategic customers, including automotive OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers, to support technical discussions related to device specifications, qualification requirements, reliability performance, and customer-specific development activities. The successful candidate will work closely with global Product Marketing, Product Engineering, Reliability Engineering and Quality teams to review customer requirements, coordinate technical responses, and support RFQ activities.
The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of power semiconductor devices, particularly SiC MOSFET technology, including device characteristics, reliability concepts, qualification methodologies, and semiconductor manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities:
- Provide pre- and post-sales technical support for Wolfspeed Korea sales team and channel partners through customer presentations, technical reviews, and product demonstrations.
- Monitor and support customer design activities through both remote and on-site engagement.
- Assist customer engineering teams in successfully adopting Wolfspeed Silicon Carbide power semiconductor products.
- Act as the primary technical interface for strategic customers, including automotive OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers.
- Lead technical discussions regarding device specifications, electrical characteristics, application requirements, and design implementation.
- Review customer specification requirements and coordinate technical responses with global Product Marketing, Product Engineering, Reliability Engineering and Quality organizations.
- Support customer RFQ activities by consolidating and analysing electrical, mechanical, reliability, and qualification requirements.
- Answer technical inquiries related to product performance, reliability, manufacturing processes, qualification data, and technology roadmaps.
- Support new product launches, including technical training for Wolfspeed sales engineers and regional channel partners.
- Design, develop, document, and distribute reference and demonstration platforms for target SiC power applications.
- Develop and deliver technical materials for customer workshops, seminars, tradeshows, and distributor training programs.
- Provide market feedback and consolidate customer requirements to support product enhancements and new product definition activities.
- Support customer discussions related to semiconductor device reliability, qualification methodologies, lifetime modelling, failure mechanisms, and technology assessments.
- Promote Wolfspeed SiC technology and product value proposition across the region.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Field Applications Engineering
- Power Electronics Design
- Power Semiconductor Applications
- Product Engineering
- Semiconductor Device Engineering
- Solid understanding of power semiconductor devices and power conversion systems.
- Experience supporting customers through technical design-in and design-win activities.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional global engineering teams.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Strong presentation and customer engagement skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in electrical engineering, Electronics Engineering, Semiconductor Engineering, Materials Science, or related disciplines.
- Academic specialization in Semiconductor Engineering.
- Practical experience in semiconductor device design, semiconductor process technology, product engineering, reliability engineering, failure analysis, or device characterization.
- Strong understanding of:
- SiC MOSFET technology
- Semiconductor device physics
- Device qualification methodologies
- Semiconductor manufacturing processes
- Gate oxide reliability concepts
- Device failure mechanisms
- Experience with automotive semiconductor standards and qualification methodologies, including AEC-Q101, AQG324, JEDEC, or equivalent standards.
- Experience reviewing and discussing reliability topics such as:
- HTRB
- HTGB
- H3TRB
- Dynamic Gate Stress (DGS)
- Power Cycling
- Thermal Cycling
- TDDB
- Lifetime Modelling
- Weibull Analysis
- Ability to translate customer technical requirements into actionable plans with Product Marketing, Product Engineering, Reliability Engineering and Quality teams.
- Experience supporting automotive OEMs or Tier-1 customers is highly preferred.
- Semiconductor engineering background or hands-on knowledge of semiconductor device design and manufacturing processes will be considered a strong advantage.
