Job Summary
The Trauma Registrar will be responsible for the data and data collection of the Trauma Registry. Maintains the confidentiality of the registry data and provides registry data and reports as appropriate. This role reports to the Trauma Program Manager,
Core Job Responsibilities
- Performs basic data collection of demographics, and coding of clinical and follow-up data from all sources into trauma registry database. Interacts with physicians, nurses, and other members of the trauma team and trauma patients to perform trauma registry functions. Keep registry current and complete within 60 days within mandated period after patient discharge.
- Abstracts, assembles, enters and codes clinical data with 95% accuracy into computer database by using the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) and the Registry Users Operations and Standards Manual.
- Participates in quality assurance and improvement activities to ensure accuracy of data collection and timely submission of data according to State Trauma Registry and the American College of Surgeons Optimal Guidelines for Trauma Centers.
- Resolves routine coding issues/problems and appropriately seeks assistance from Trauma Program Manager for the more difficult ones.
- Maintains patient confidentiality including confidentiality of sensitive hospital performance improvement information.
- Participates in Trauma Performance Improvement and other committee meetings, and educational conferences in order to maintain and expand Trauma Registry knowledge base.
- Participates in internal and community outreach education on injury prevention, trauma systems, and trauma data.
- Contributes data to the State Trauma Registry quarterly and to the NTDB annually. Also, provides registry reports to hospital staff as requested.
- Communicates with hospital leadership, physicians, admitting staff and other trauma staff.Performs related duties as assigned.
Education/Experience Requirements
REQUIRED:
- Associates degree in Health Information Management, billing, a related degree or equivalent experience.
- One year of PCT, medical/clerical/administrative, coding or related experience
- Must successfully complete the ICD-CM coding course, and American Trauma Society Registrar Courses (Basic and Advanced) within one year of employment.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
Proficient with MS Office, email, databases and reporting tools. - Excellent written/oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to accuracy, detail and able to meet deadlines.
PREFERRED:
- Epic EMR and Imagetrend experience.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
PREFERRED:
- Certified Trauma Registrar
- CAISS (Certified Abbreviated Injury Scale Specialist, CTSR (Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries)).
