Under the direct supervision of the Laboratory Medical Director, Director of Laboratory Services, and Assistant Laboratory Director and reports under the Clinical Laboratory Educator in the lab organization chart. Is responsible for the training and competency documentation of new laboratory employees in laboratory fundamentals and phlebotomy procedures. Assists in developing, conducting and evaluating in-service programs, orientation and continuing education programs for laboratory staff, students, and other staff as requested. Serves as a resource person to staff and management.
Utilizes technical skills as described in job description for laboratory assistant to provide assistance to maintain work flow. Obtains proper blood specimens from “difficult” patients as needed. Provides orientation and training for new laboratory staff and students as directed gearing the training to our lab and MVHS policies and procedures. Does not train to “short cuts”. Completes required records of training and orientation for employees assigned to them. Assists in evaluating employees for competency in phlebotomy and office procedures. Determines the priority of requests to arrange work loads to provide for optimal patient care and efficiency. Trains incoming staff on how to arrange workload.
