Job Summary

The Ancillary Clinical Educator is responsible for the facilitation, coordination, and evaluation of training programs for ancillary healthcare staff across the organization. This role supports a variety of clinical ancillary positions. In addition to role-specific training, the Ancillary Clinical Educator plays a key role in organization-wide clinical education initiatives, including the De-escalation and Workplace Violence Prevention Program and the Basic Life Support (BLS) Program. This position ensures that staff develop and maintain the clinical, safety, and behavioral competencies required to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care.

Core Job Responsibilities

  • Facilitate and coordinate onboarding and ongoing training programs for ancillary healthcare roles including, but not limited to: PCTs, CNAs, Phlebotomy Technicians, BHTs, and Sitters/Constant Observers.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate structured training curricula and competency-based education programs for ancillary staff in alignment with organizational standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct new hire orientation and role-specific training for all ancillary employees; ensures completion of required competency assessments prior to independent practice.
  • Provide re-education and remediation training for existing staff based on identified competency gaps, performance improvement needs, or changes in policy and procedure.
  • Prepare and maintain engaging, up-to-date educational materials, training guides, skills checklists, and instructional resources for all ancillary training programs.
  • Adjust schedule as needed to support training across all shifts, including pre-arranged evenings, nights, and weekends, to ensure all staff have access to required education.
  • Serve as a certified instructor for BLS, De-Escalation, phlebotomy, etc. Plans, schedules, and delivers certification and recertification courses for ancillary staff. Ensure all course materials, equipment, and documentation meet accrediting body requirements.
  • Track and monitor certification status for ancillary staff; coordinates timely recertification to ensure organizational compliance.
  • Evaluate and document employee competency in accordance with organizational policy; maintains accurate and complete training records, education files, and competency documentation for all ancillary staff.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities, assigned committees, and work groups as directed by leadership.
  • Follows all organizational policies and procedures including, but not limited to, those related to infection control, privacy, attendance, safety, quality, and the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • 1 year of experience in an ancillary healthcare role (e.g., PCT, CNA, Phlebotomy, BHT, or similar).
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, guide, and motivate others; prior training, preceptor, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to adapt training materials to a variety of learning styles and adult learning principles.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Basic computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to operate audiovisual and instructional equipment used in training and patient care settings.
  • Ability to travel to off-site locations within MVHS, as needed.

PREFERRED:

  • Prior experience in teaching or training of adult learners or formal knowledge of adult learning theory.
  • Experience with EPIC and clinical workflow training.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

REQUIRED:

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • BLS Instructor and de-escalation trainer certification required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire.

PREFERRED:

  • License in a clinical field, New York State licensure or ability to obtain
  • Certification in a relevant ancillary healthcare specialty (e.g., Certified Phlebotomy Technician, Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Patient Care Technician, or equivalent).
